DHA Cogen Limited (DCL) is a Public Limited Company
incorporated in the city of Karachi on January 19,
2003. DCL is a joint venture between Defence Housing
Authority, Karachi (DHA) and Sacoden Investments,
Singapore (SI). Its existing Board of Directors
comprises representatives of both DHA and SI in
the ratio of two to four respectively with another
member nominated by Faysal Bank Limited, owing to
their placement in the Share capital of the Company.
The primary objective of the Company is to build
and operate a Power Generation and Water Desalination
Complex. This Complex is intended to fulfill the
needs of electricity and potable water of the entire
Defence Housing Scheme of Karachi. The electricity
shall be generated using Natural Gas as its primary
Fuel. The Net Dependable Capacity of the complex
shall be approximately 94 MW with a Gross Capacity
of 110 MW. The fuel gas for the complex will be
supplied by the Sui Southern Gas Company Limited
(SSGCL) via a 20 inch diameter gas pipe line in
accordance with the Gas Purchase Agreement (GPA)
to be signed between SSGCL and DCL.
As regards the environmental aspects
of the project, e.g. gaseous emissions, noise levels
etc. will be in compliance with the National Environmental
Quality Standards (NEQS). Liquid fuel what so ever
is not permitted in the power generating units respecting
the environmental health comfort of the inhabitants.
